Ressei somen
Full-face samurai armor mask
Haruta School, mid Edo Period (1603-1867)
A fine and crisp mask boldly modeled with a ressei (fierce) expression and lacquered in original sabiji-urushi (russet iron lacquer).
Made in two main pieces and with the typical almond-shaped eyes and wide chin, the construction features are those of the Haruta school, recalling some full masks signed by Masanobu from japanese public collections.
Red lacquered interior; the yodarekake (throat protection) of black lacquered kiritsukezane and laced in blue kebiki odoshi.
