The scene is in typical Kanō school style, dominated by a group of cranes in irregular and dynamic positions. The powerful arrangement shows an impetuous river running under and over a willow tree on which the cranes are resting and flying. The dynamism is enhanced by the different poses of the animals but is opposed to the quite falling branches and the flourishing elegance of the flowers, peonies in the Spring composition and camellias in the Winter one.
