Suzuribako, writing box with horses

Gold lacquer in nashi-ji  with  golden, copper and lead inserts

Golden lacquered writing box decorated with a Japanese landscape representing three horses under a maple tree, at the foot of a mountain.
The interior is decorated with storks, some in flight and one resting while the whole scene is dominated by a huge full moon. One of the storks is entirely made of gilded bronze and embossed. The weather dropper, which is also in gilded bronze, has the elegant form of a tied love letter.
