Kage-cho sukashi tsuba
Tsuba of almost circular form, pierced with formalized butterflies, in a symmetrical design, the iron of fine quality.
The design derives from the Ko-Shoami tsuba mounted on Hosokawa Sansai's favourite kasen-goshirae. To the left and right, it shows large sukashi in the form of a butterfly and the eyeballs reaching towards the seppadai form a unique design of which Sansai was very fond.
A similar example by Fukanobu is preserved at the Kumamoto Prefectural Art Museum.
The tsuba is accompanied by a NBTHK Hozon certificate attributing the work to the second Kamiyoshi master, Fukanobu (1786-1851).
