Kabuto bachi
Signed: Nagamichi
Mid Edo period, circa 1750
This hachi bears the signature of Nagamichi, an excellent maker whose work, while comparatively rare, is immediately recognizable to the experienced eye. The rivets are arranged in three rows on the front plate, each row comprising thirty-one rivets – as typical – disposed with an alignment comparable to the finest Saotome Ietada work. The surface retains a fine, even dark patina. The maedate-dai is pierced with an inome (boar’s-eye) aperture, almost a signature of this maker.
