KOSHIRAE

The blade comes with a very good koshirae with shakudo-nanako and gold Goto-school fittings illustrating scenes from the Genpei war and a black and brown ishime lacquer striped saya.

Osafune in Bizen province and Seki in Mino province were the two biggest sword supply bases during the “warring state” (Sengoku) period (1467-1568). Kanetsuji is a well known late koto sword-maker from Mino. He was active between 1555 and 1573, producing mainly tanto. His blades are listed as wazamono (“Sharp items”).
