Ivory netsuke depicting a typical Japanese hat on which a puppy is lying. The animal is depicted with vivid naturalness, the attention to detail is so high that his expression makes him look animated. The puppy is intent on tearing with its teeth a part of the hat, on which begin to appear  some holes. The balance of the composition is based on the extreme geometry of the hat, gently broken by the presence of the dog.
